Hoi,
As one of the person "responsible" for the WiktionaryZ project, I have a big interest in standards. We want to bring information on all languages (what languages exist, how big will our project be), it is a project on the Internet (how will crawlers find our information and be able to use it). We ask people who edit to indicate their language proficiency (I have included this same information here for your amusement).
Standards are enablers, but when implemented well they can have a scope that goes much further that its original scope. ISO-639 for instance is used elsewhere and <pof warning>is not really useful to indicate what languages are being used in its first two iteration. </end of pof warning>.
I do acknowledge my gratitude to the English language Wikipedia. I have copied choice bits of information in order to have initial content for Wiki for Standards.
